Designer
Eero Aarnio (nato nel 1932) è un designer e professore honoris causa finlandese, considerato uno dei grandi innovatori del design di mobili moderno. Nel corso degli anni Aarnio ha sperimentato con un’ampia gamma di materiali diversi, tra cui plastica, fibra di vetro e polietilene. Con questi materiali è ruscito a creare alcune delle icone del design finlandese come le poltrone Ball Chair (1962), Bubble chair (1968) o Pastilli (1968).
Famoso soprattutto per i suoi mobili, Eero Aarnio è conosciuto anche per le sue lampade – come Double Bubble e Swan – e si è dimostrato abile anche come stilista del legno – ad esempio con lo sgabello da bar Rocket e con lo sgabello Baby Rocket. I design di Eero Aarnio sono caratterizzati da un atteggiamento positivo e da una natura gioiosa, un esempio dei quali sono lavori come il simpatico Puppy o il delizioso Dino.
Le creazioni di Eero Aarnio sono presenti nelle collezioni di numerosi musei di tutto il mondo, tra cui il Victoria and Albert Hall Museum di Londra, il MoMA di New York, il Vitra Design Museum di Weil am Rhein, Germania, e il Centro Georges Pompidou di Parigi. Eero Aarnio ha vinto numerosi premi internazionali di design, compresi il Red Dot Design Award e il Compasso d’Oro.
