Kay Bojesen (1886-1958) è uno dei più importanti pionieri del design danese. Egli apprese il mestiere di argentiere presso il laboratorio di Georg Jensen, un marchio scandinavo sinonimo di tradizione e design di qualità che vanta oltre 100 anni di tradizione e esperienza. Kay Bojesen creò diversi prodotti in argento, come posate e piatti da portata, tra cui il suo famoso servizio di posate Grand Prix.
Kay Bojesen lavorò anche con altri materiali ed in particolare esplorò le possibilità offerte dal legno. Un esempio ne è la collezione di animali in legno, divenuta un classico del design scandinavo. Gli animali in legno di Bojesen sono amati ancora oggi da bambini e adulti così come lo erano negli anni ’50, l’epoca in cui vennero creati e divennero noti al pubblico. La scimmia, l’orso e l’elefante non sono solo personaggi in legno, ma hanno una loro vita. Kay Bojesen desiderava creare personaggi in legno con un cuore ed è riuscito perfettamente nel suo intento. Gli animali sono simpatici e ispiratori – perfetti come compagni di giochi per i bambini ma anche come soprammobili per decorare la casa.
Gli animali in legno di Bojesen furono un successo immediato e per questo essi furono in mostra presso il Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra negli anni ‘50. Kay Bojesen ricevette molti premi importanti, tra cui il Grand Prix alla Triennale di Milano del 1951 per il suo famoso servizio di posate Grand Prix, tuttora molto amato. Kay Bojesen ricevette anche la Medaglia d'Oro alla Triennale di Milano del 1954 e fu inoltre nominato argentiere ufficiale del Re di Danimarca.
