Designer
La designer finlandese Maija Louekari (nata nel 1982) è nota per le stampe su stoffa create per Marimekko. Maija ha studiato all’Università di Arte e Design di Helsinki e la sua carriera ha avuto inizio nel 2003 con la vincita del concorso di design Nuoren elämän raamit (The Setting for a Young Life). Il concorso fu organizzato dalla stessa Università di Arte e Design di Helsinki, presso cui Maija Louekari studiava, e da Marimekko e Maija vinse con il motivo Hetkiä (Moments), che cattura un momento di vita quotidiana presso il parco Esplanadi nel centro di Helsinki.
Nel disegnare i tessuti, Maija Louekari trova l’ispirazione nella vita di tutti i giorni, nelle piccole cose che la circondano, persone, suoni, sentimenti, ecc. Ognuno dei suoi motivi è accompagnato da una storia interessante. Tra i suoi disegni più importanti ci sono ad esempio Ho-Hoi e Kaiku che ritraggono dei paesaggi finlandesi tipici, Satakieli e Karkuteillä, quest’ultimo è un simpatico motivo che ritrae tre amici che sono scappati dallo zoo e che prima di tornare al loro habitat naturale sono andati a fare shopping in città, come si può vedere dagli stivali chic dell’elefante. Nel 2009 Maija Louekari ha disegnato le illustrazioni per il servizio di piatti e tazze In Good Company, di Marimekko, con disegni quali Siirtolapuutarha, Puutarhurin parhaat e Räsymatto, che sono diventati anche delle splendide stoffe.
